Welcome to the world of India International Bearing Expo 2007 (IIBEX- 2007), an exclusive showcase of Bearings and allied products, scheduled to be held at World Trade Centre, Cuffe parade, Mumbai, India from 5th to 7th October 2007. IIBEX '07 builds on the phenomenal success of Bearing Expo 2006 held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 22nd to 24th July '06.

World Bearing Market
Global demand for Bearings is projected a growth of five percent annually to over $40 billion in 2010, accelerating from the 2000-2005 period. Market advances in developing parts of the world, including the Asia , Pacific, Mideast, Eastern Europe and Latin America regions - will considerably outpace demand in the US, Western Europe and Japan. China will register the largest gains of any national market in dollar terms as the country continues to develop as an economic power and manufacturing and fixed investment activity climb. Market growth is also expected to be strong in India, Thailand, Taiwan and Russia. Demand for Bearings used in Industrial Machinery will rise at an above average rate, spurred by ongoing industrialization efforts in developing parts of the world.

India's Bearing Industry at a glance
The manufacturing activity in India started in the late 40's with the production of small and standard bearings. The Indian bearing industry today manufactures small and medium bearings mainly in five categories, i.e. ball bearings, cylindrical roller bearings, taper roller bearings, spherical roller bearings and needle roller bearings. From the inception of the industry, bearing manufacturing in the country is dependent on foreign technology. The organised sector of the industry has imported know-how from various internationally leading Bearing manufacturers.  The import of technology is generally restricted to small and standard bearings. There could be about 40,000 different types and sizes of bearings in demand in the market.
The Indian Bearing Industry at present is catering to only about 1000 types and sizes. The bearing technology transfer with in the industry is disappointing.
Domestic bearings industry estimated at Rs. 12.5 bn. in FY 02, mainly producing small sized bearings. Organised sector has a share of 65% of the market, imports account for about 30% and unorganized sector accounts for the rest. Indian bearing industry has been growing at a CAGR of 8.2% in the last six years.

Imports
Prior to the setting up of manufacturing units in India, the entire requirement of bearings was met from imports. Later on, balance demand which can not be satisfied by domestic manufacturers (either due to economic constaints or due to technical reasons) is met from imports. However, even today the level of imports is high as the demand for numerous sizes of bearings that are not made in the country is high. Around 65-70% of the total bearing requirement in terms of volumes is imported. Imports today are estimated to be around Rs. 7 bn per year.
